4th August, 2006 |
Bangalore - The Business Development Institute (BD-I), USA and Software Quality Center India, a wholly owned subsidiary of US based Software Quality Center LLC, its exclusive India partner, and one of the world's Top 5 full service IT and best practices consulting services company, launched the premier Business Development process improvement, excellence and benchmarking model, the BD-CMM® in India.
The BD-CMM is developed based on special permission from the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) the custodian of the grand Capability Maturity Model (CMM) the grandest known benchmarking model in the industry for software and software intensive systems development.
About 60+ organizations including major US Defense Contractors, Commercial companies and International organizations were involved during the development of this new model since year 2000. The initiative combined efforts from the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP), Shipley Associates along with the US DoD contractor community and Industry consortia contributed to the development of the model.

Left to Right : Mr. Pawan Kumar, Mr. Howard Nutt and Mr. Kris Puthucode
On the occasion speaking to the media Mr. Kris Puthucode, CEO, Software Quality Center said "This model is by far the grandest and the only available, for structured Business Development process improvement and excellence, and benchmarking and is being used by over 30+ organizations worldwide in efforts to achieve sustainable excellence in BD. India Inc. has been using the CMM models for over a decade in the IT sector and now there is a great model to help bridge the gap between the pre-sales, sales and delivery functions in an organization".
Further he said "Companies in India that have grown through IPO/VC or FII route and have succeeded in growing through "Volume" or "mass" based work, especially in IT/ITES think they have good BD practices, while there is not a lot of evidence to prove that. In fact we have not found evidence of Increasing Customer Value through long term and continuous process improvement of BD processes in majority of Organizations. There is a need to retrospectively look at what these organizations need to do to sustain the growth, and the BD CMM is one such powerful mechanism to diagnose the state of their BD efforts and function and re-align priorities and refine processes. We would like the SME s in India to take advantage of this to become more competitive and aim at efficiency and effectiveness of their marketing and sales Investments."
Mr. Howard Nutt, Executive Director, BD Institute said "What is advantageous in BD CMM is that it is built on the framework of models that have been tried and tested in the Industry and widely accepted as de-facto standards, and also includes aspects from the People-CMM model
integrated into it.
Further he said "We are happy to have partnered with SQC to bring the model to India and South-East Asia and hope the industry will find value in improving their BD processes. I look forward to a long and mutually beneficial association."
The BD CMM model provides a methodical process improvement and excellence path for the entire life cycle of Business Development from an ad-hoc people intensive to a mature, disciplined approach to achieving sustainable results in Top and Bottom line of companies through practices from the BD CMM. The model has a five level maturity scale to benchmark and measure progression of organizations through the maturity levels.
Among the next steps, SQC has plans to organize a series of seminars and "Adoption runs" in major cities to help widespread adoption of the model in addition to providing very high end consulting and benchmarking appraisals against the BD CMM. SQC is also targeting at least 2 to 4 early adopters across Industries over the next two years.
